01.) He walked away, clutching feebly at the scrap of cloth they gave him to cover himself. (Shattered, NB/JM RPS)
02.) “I was never, ever wanted,” he says softly, eyes fixed firmly forward. “Not by my parents, not by the Council, not by the woman I love. Hell, even Angel only kept me around because…” (Let Go, Spike/Wesley)
03.) He can feel the heat of her eyes, prickling against the back of his neck. (The Hours: Matins, Angel/Buffy)
04.) He doesn’t remember a world not seen through the filter of her. (The Devil's Leap, The Night Travelers [Torchwood])
05.) Of all the gin joints in all the world, I had to walk into this one. (L.A. Confidential, Spike/Angelus)
06.) It’s Tuesday. (Crossing Paths, Buffy)

Patterns, huh. Well, I'm fairly diverse, pairing-wise. But I do notice that if I'm not starting off with dialogue, I rarely name the character in the first sentence. I think it adds a bit of tension,if though the characters are labeled at the top of the fic. Also, and again only with non-dialogue openings, I seem to run towards terse opening lines. Economy and all that, I guess. What do you guys think? Any patterns I'm missing?
