Dear America,

Please stop assuming that my membership in the Republican party is based on my right-wing Christian, anti-abortion, homophobic batshittery. While I realize the loudest (and most irritating) conservatives are, indeed, of the batshit persuastion, there are plenty of dumbfuck liberals out there as well. (How many Dems would care to be represented by NAMBLA or ELF? Thought so.) Don't make me whip out my polytheistic and gay brother credentials every time we have a damn conversation around here.

Will I vote for John McCain? I don't know. His new running mate combined with his crazy religious comments lo these many months ago (only Xtians should be President WTF?) are really not motivating me to stick with the party of Lincoln. On the other hand. Obama's Big Government Super Nanny State socialism isn't really rocking my fucking world, either. I'm a Republican because I believe in lower taxes, as little government as possible, and a whole bunch of bombs for when talking pretty doesn't work anymore. So universal health care and jacking up my Social Security taxes? Not likely to win my heart or my vote.

So I'm hanging back, waiting for the debates. Who knows? I might hear something that will cancel out the extraordinary stupidity of an anti-abortion Crazy Christer VP or persuade me to take a chance on Barack's All Government All The Time worldview.

But PLEASE. I'm begging here. Stop painting all conservatives with the same brush. Spite isn't pretty and it doesn't advance the national debate on which fandom has the hottest porn.

Heh. I hear ya. Since I'm in San Francisco, it's been awhile since I met a Republican in the wild, which I think is a shame. My old boss and I used to have the best conversations on various political issues, but I was so left and he was so right, that we usually ended up at more or less the same point. It's as if the spectrum is a circle, not a line, you know? I had a lot of respect for his perspective, which was consistent, ideologically speaking. But then, I visit my evangelical relatives whose political desires are stated thus (loudly and often): We want the government out of people's lives AND the first thing we have to do is outlaw all abortions. The corollary is, of course, we want the government out of peoples lives AND the second thing we have to do is outlaw gay marriage. To paraphrase Xander Harris, this makes the kind of sense that doesn't. So, I've given up the conversations, but I miss 'em.

Republican in the wild

I love that. Would you mind if I turned it into an icon at some point?

Seriously, I get way tired of people assuming that conservative=asshat. Sure there are plenty of asshat conservatives, but still. And I enjoy political debates. However what I see these days isn't debates, but bashing. And that's from both sides. Somehow having a different opinion now translates into being evil. I blame the internet.

Mostly I would just like for people to stop question my woman cred because I'm a Republican. Not all women Republicans are anti-abortion or anti-women's rights or anti-whateveritis. Sheesh.

I have yummy organic lotion made of lemons, btw. I love yummy smelling lotion. I'm a cheap shopping addict. I just keep buying new lotions.

You lost me with your lotion track/analogy thingy. Are you saying, if life gives you lemons, make yummy lotion? But hey! Icon to your heart's content. It's a free country. *snerk*

I'm a LIBERAL, hopefully not of the dumbfuck persuasion. I'm pretty sure I'm a clever girl :)

And 4 (or was it 8) years ago, I liked McCain. I even said I might vote for him depending on who the Democratic nominee was. I was sad that he lost out to W. But my oh my, how right you are. He is really wooing those irritating conservatives, isn't he? I have a place in my heart for the fondly remembered centrist Republicans of my youth, but they seem to be a dying breed.

Thanks for helping to keep me honest :)

Liberal Republicans: Not just for fairy-tales anymore!

And yes, McCain has forgotten his roots. Not that it matters. I really don't see much stopping Obamania except catching Obama in bed with a Saudi businessman (figuratively speaking).

And I'm actually okay with this. Either things will improve or there'll be some lulz. Maybe Obama will be the 00's version of Gerry Ford? :P

YES!

I'm tired of being painted the same way. Although I don't put myself out there in either party, always only vote my conscience and if their plans line up with what are my important issues, I do tend to go for less government and always blow the fuck out of anyone who wants to blow the fuck out of us.

I don't go for pretty talk, or what I consider talking around the issues, instead of giving me a straight forward, thought out plan. I haven't completely made up my mind either because I'm so not for cutting our military by tens of billions, or jacking up many different taxes, but I can't stand the take away any woman's right to choose stance, or it being illegal for gays to marry. This election is gonna drive me bug shagging crazy.

Really tired of pulling out my two lesbian sisters and gay cousin too, my couple of tattos and piercings, or the simple fact I believe in live and let live just to prove I'm not some asshole running around spouting hate because I dont' like big government, or think that the crazies of the world who would love to see innocent ppl die painfully are a bunch of nice fluffy bunnies. *takes deep breath* Sorry for the run on sentence. lol

Damn you! You're completely evil. I've refrained from making any political type statements at all until now, even if this was a small one. Don't feel like being bashed because I'm a middle of the road type person.

Love, breathe in for me. You make me nervous when you rant. I'm afeared you're gonna run out of oxygen and collapse all over my LJ... :P

But yeah. Being a Republican shouldn't revoke your woman cred or your status as a decent human being. That's my beef.

*hugs*

You know, sweetie, there is another party out there. *g*

Though I have to admit, I know almost nothing about this chick McCain picked up. Is she for or against Alaska drilling? I know she's considered a bit of a maverick, but why?

Palin is for drilling in Alaska. Said yesterday that Alaska came into the Union based on the premise they would be self-sufficient; then the government reneged on that and won't let them drill. She also was against the "Bridge to Nowhere". I like her just for that fact. Sheryl

Icon FTW! But no to the libertarians. Libertarianism is like the pick and mix of political parties. It stands for so many things, it doesn't actually mean anything. Besides, Ron Paul and Ralph Nader creep me the fuck out. I don't own a gun but I'll be damned if anyone's taking away my right to them.

Of course, I felt the same way about Huckabee's declaration that if he were elected, he'd work towards making abortion a crime. I may not have a uterus anymore, but that doesn't mean you can withdraw my rights.

And that's essentially my issue with Palin. She's anti-abortion and a creationist. She opposes teaching the theory of evolution in public schools. Yeah. I have issues with someone who wants to teach their religion to my children.
