noandwhere who said she was curious about my answers. Well, sweetie...I'mma have to modify this one a bit. I'm not a big album person. I wasn't even before the download one song iTunes revolution. The difference is that before iTunes? I had to buy the whole album just to get the one song I wanted. Now I can go song by song. So, I'm not really down for albums.
BUT! How about I do artists or groups instead? I do have a few of those that I especially love. However, these will be in no particular order as I just don't like anything enough to classify it like that.
1.) Project:
I found this guy on Youtube and literally ran to purchase this CD. He's a beboxing flautist!! How can you freaking beat that? I listen to this almost constantly when I'm writing because it's wonderfully moody, with great highs and lows and when you're writing wah-ngst? Nothing beats that. Except maybe...
2.) Medieval Babes
For several years before fandom (and by several I mean ten or so), I was a medieval whore. Well, not literally. I can't imagine that actual medieval whoredom was any fun whatsoever.Anyways...I used to fight. With padded weapons. While wearing period clothing. It was the mostest fun. These women provide an awesome pseudo-medieval soundtrack for battles, plus? They're awesome for writing. My favorite of all their songs is "Erthe upon Erthe" and I did indeed write a fic of the same title. The sound of the song reminds me of the violent rain in the very last scene of NFA.
3.) Eminem
I know! I take you from beboxing flautists to Eminem. I love Eminem. He has an incredible passion and energy, and in my opinion he's one of the greatest lyricists of his generation. I don't always agree with what he says, but I always enjoy the way he says it.
4.) Stephen Sondheim
I am a huuuuge Sondheim fan. My favorite musicals are Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park with George. In fact, I got my husband hooked on Sondheim after we married. Listening to Finishing the Hat while your artist husband is busy drawing? That's some damn pathos, baby. Plus the wicked humor in his music is irresistible. I love Nathan Lane's version of Prologos...and who doesn't?
5.) Gaia Consort
This is a group (a large group!) of pagan musicians and I was incredibly excited when the first time I heard them. Most pagan music is either irritatingly new age-y or drearily folk-y. It's the musical drawback of not being part of a mainstream faith. You don't get a ton of musicians writing hymns that move you (and your feet). But this group is wonderful and songs like Beltane Fire, Solstice Call, and The Rede are fabulous. Not only is their music inspirational but it offers me a chance to share my faith with my son in way that isn't preachy or overly ritualistic.
